Abstract
A DMp. solution of 2-thiouracil dissolves Ca(OH)2 to give [(thiouracilyl)2Ca·2DMSO·H2O]n (1), a solution of which will in turn dissolve solid PtCl2. 1 is dimeric (n=2) in the solid, and the presence of two tautomers of the thiouracilyl anion (one terminal on Ca, one bridging) allows every electronegative centre not used in bonding to calcium to be used in an intricate system of intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonding.
