Abstract

The purpose of the «Restructuring of Nationwide Information Services» is to reorganize the information infrastructure in Germany as outlined in the 2011 DFG position paper. The basic services of the library networks, which have hitherto been organised on a regional basis, are now to be established as functionally defined permanent national services but which are also linked internationally. Structurally relevant, cross-discipline and nationally oriented services are to be set up as additional services which also reflect the changed working practices of scientists. It is only possible to effect such comprehensive restructuring with additional funding, which is why the German Research Foundation (DFG) issued an invitation for tenders. This yielded three approved projects in March 2013. The implementation of the projects and therefore the restructuring process as a whole are being supported by the DFG with a range of measures.
