Abstract
Bioinformatical analysis is a powerful approach to study the molecular properties of DNA and protein sequences. Such an evaluation was performed with the pentacistronic zwf and the monocistronic edd2 operon of Ralstonia eutropha H16 using various bioinformatical programs. The two directly neighboring, divergently oriented operons contain genes encoding some enzymes of the glycolytic Entner-Doudoroff pathway. The study provided insight into characteristic structural features of the different gene products of the operons. Phylogenetic trees were constructed for these products based on sequence alignments with homologous proteins to delineate their possible evolution. The obtained information will significantly facilitate subsequent experimental analysis of these sequences.
