- Abstract
- On this excursion, two important episodes in the tectono-sedimentary evolution of the area will be presented, exemplified by the Sack and Hils region (Leinebergland, NW Germany). First, the facies development during the Late Jurassic/Early Cretaceous regression will be shown (Malm Group). It is intimately associated with synsedimentary ortho- and halotectonism (Late-Cimmerian tectonic epoch). Especially the rise of diapirs and concomitant hydrocarbon migration and methane seepage make the resulting sediments, e.g. stromatolitic intervals (Münder-Formation), unique microbial biosedimentary systems. The sediments of the upper Plänerkalk Group represent a further anactualistic system. Due to the drowning of the central European shelf seas in the cause of the worldwide Cenomanian transgression, N-limited limestone producing biosedimentary systems (calcareous nannofossil ooze) with pelagic character established over wide parts of the shelf areas. In todays oceans, these systems can only be found beyond the shelf break.
- Issue Date
